Endangered Animal Project Guidelines

I.               Paragraph

This will be the weekly writing revision for the next two weeks (Jan. 12 - 22). It will come home to be revised.  Feel free to help your child make this paragraph the best it can be since it will be on display along with the puppet.

II.          Information Sheet

Students will begin to gather this information this week at school.  It is ultimately to be finished at home. Help your child to use resources to gather the information.

III.     Puppet 

The paper bag puppet will be started at school. The puppet should be as realistic as possible.  It will probably need some enchancements or improvements at home.  It is great if you want to make the puppet at home using any materials you wish.  Have fun!

IV.         Social Studies

Draw and color your animal on an index card.  Place the index card on the classroom world map and identify where your animal is threatened or endangered by attaching a piece of yarn.

V.              Display

Your display could be a poster, project board, diorama, mobile, etc… The display could include stuffed animals, books, photos, clay model, drawing, video, or any item of interest relating to that animal. You are to incorporate your display into your oral presentation.

   VI.  Oral Presentation

You will give an oral presentation to the class about your animal.  The presentation should include information from the report, the puppet, the animal drawn and placed on the world map.  You may use your display to help.  

VII. References

You are to use at least two sources of information.  At least one source must be print: book, magazine, encyclopedia etc…

 

Do the best you can with the references.  Put as much information as you can find.

 

Citing Your References:  List all of your references.  Formats for each type of publication follows:

-Web site:  Author(s)if appropriate. Title of the site or web page. URL of site, date you acquired the information.

-Book:   Author(s). Title of book. Edition. Location of publisher: Name of Publisher, year of publication.

-Encyclopedia: Title of encyclopedia, volume of encyclopedia used.  Location of publisher:  Name of Publisher, year of publication, pages where the article is located.

-Magazine or Journal: Author(s). “Title of article.”  Name of Magazine, volume, issue (date): pages where the article is located.

 

We will be working on the projects in school. You are to keep the information you collect in your red folder.  It should come to school daily.  It is okay if you take the red folder home but be sure you come to school every day with your information.

 

Projects are due Thursday, February 17, 2010.
